Medical home health is a prescription for therapy given by a doctor to remedy an illness or injury at home. A medically licensed therapist visits the patient’s home at a convenient time. The therapist belongs to a medically licensed home health agency that the doctor works with to provide medical care at home.
Medical home health service takes care of ailments such as wounds, surgical wounds, and rehabilitation. Home health also provides services like intravenous or nutrition therapy, injections, monitoring serious illness and unstable health status, and patient and caregiver education. Medical home health is for patients that can recover. It is not for those who have a terminal illness or disease.
In addition, medical home health compliments outpatient therapy. Therapy at home can be started first if the patient is unable to get to the outpatient therapy center. Also, if outpatient therapy services are exhausted from the insurers standpoint, then medical home health can be used to continue therapy.
Medical home health is covered by most insurances. Original Medicare fully covers home health. Medicare Advantage PPOs and private insurer PPOs often cover home health. Private insurer HMOs sometime cover home health. Medical home health also accepts private payments. Tucson Medical Home Health will determine and communicate the patient’s eligibility and cost before service starts.
